Lavarne Ross, American
Lavarne Ross is an internationally known artist. His art reproductions can bee seen in many households throughout the United States and abroad. Lavarne, a native of his beloved Flint, Michigan states, “I was born an artist. This is a god-given talent that I feel really blessed to be part of, because I feel art is me. It is us".
Lavarne's artwork does more than appeal to our visual senses. He relays a message, tells a story, and reveals a part of history. Viewers are marvled at the fluidity of composition, showcased in his most popular series “Dancers”. A master storyteller, Lavarne depicts moments of life, exposing them with his paint brush. Following advice given to him many years ago, “paint what you know”, Lavarne strives to reflect his heritage and vision through his paintings.
The reflections of his life comes forth on canvas where Ross depicts family life, ancestry, music and religion, i.e., “life itself”. Ross states, "Because I have lived through a transition of the people and a city from one time period to another, as an artist, I feel obligated to record these events and changes on canvas. That is part of being an artist." Whenever the opportunity lends itself, Lavarne works with and encourages aspiring young artists to appreciate and pursue their gift.
